Day 24: Anaheim to San Diego

Continental breakfast started the day before loading the buses and heading down I-5 to San Diego. The traffic this morning wasn’t near as bad as it has been the past couple days in California. When we arrived in San Diego, the San Diego Zoo would be our first stop. Our group took a tour of one of the worlds largest zoological parks on a double decker bus. On that tour, our guides not only talked about each exhibit that we came upon, but also how we could help prevent the extinction of some plants and animals that were located in the park. After the 30-40 minute bus tour, travelers were given time to walk around the zoo to look at some of the animals that interested them from the bus tour. The most popular exhibits from our group were the gorillas, elephants, pandas and giraffes.

Our next stop for the day was lunch, which was located in San Diego’s Old Town Historic District. The Casa Guadalajara Restaurant provided a Mexican buffet which included enchiladas, chicken fajitas, rice, beans and an option to put them on your plate however you’d like.

Our afternoon adventure consisted of an audio tour of the USS Midway. The USS Midway was used from 1945-1992 which is America's longest-serving aircraft carrier of the 20th century. Approximately 200,000 sailors served aboard the carrier, known for several naval aviation breakthroughs as well as several humanitarian missions. It was the only carrier to serve the entire length of the Cold War and beyond. The group enjoyed roaming below deck, getting inside fighter planes on the flight deck, and even participating in flight simulations.

Tonight’s dinner was catered in La Jolla. Travelers enjoyed BBQ chicken, baked beans and potatoes. After dinner the group had some free time in La Jolla. Some enjoyed the beautiful sunset over the Pacific Ocean while others took into town and enjoyed the shopping district.
