Day 16: Seattle, WA

Our day in Seattle started with a trip up the Space-needle. We rode the elevators in groups approximately 500 feet into the sky to the observation deck. Normally we would eat breakfast in the restaurant atop the needle. However, since the needle is undergoing some construction to put a glass floor in the restaurant we ate breakfast at the hotel before starting our day. Upon exiting the elevator at the top of the Needle our groups were greeted with a view of the city through the glass walls around the rotunda. Outside on the observation deck we could lean against the newly installed glass walls to get an unobstructed view of the city and bay below. Some conquered their fears stepping onto glass seats to take photos.

The second activity of the day was a guided bus tour. Step on tour guides Kay and James (a North Carolina native) gave us very educating tours of the city. We saw the Amazon headquarters including their new think-tank bubbles, the stadium district, the locks, and salmon-ladders among other areas. Our tour concluded at Pikes Place Market where the group set off for some free time and lunch on their own.

After a quick turn around at the hotel we loaded the bus and ventured back to the edge of the city to Ivar’s Salmon House. Delicious dishes of Chicken Marsala, pasta, and Salmon were served while the sun slowly started setting on the skyscrapers across the bay. The night ended with pictures by the water and an early bedtime to prepare for our drive to Gold Beach tomorrow.
